In January of 2016, Hilo Intermediate in Hilo, Hawaii was awarded a $5,000 grant to purchase and support both new and existing music programs that focus on ukulele, vocal and piano instruction. The school was selected from over 877 applicants initial applicants through a two-tiered application process.

“It is our vision that students at the Hilo Intermediate School are exposed to and offered opportunities and platforms to discover, develop, and deploy their talents and gifts in music. Through this grant, we will be able to give every student a chance to be exposed to music.” said Arnold Peneueta, a music teacher at the school.
