Newest Puzzle: #14, 1999 Party Popourri, 7/16/99
Introduction: Welcome (back) to the Mockingbird Puzzle series, testing your comprehension of Phish lore. The first few puzzles are relatively easy. All of the answers (but not all of the clues) are from titles of songs Phish has created, covered, or teased. The clues are fairly standard, the grid isn't tight, and the layout isn't symmetric. These will tease you for what's to come.
Progression: Future puzzles will be distributed here, with some irregularity, and occasionally at Phish shows on Mockingbird flyers. (The latter are great to help pass the time during the setbreak and after the show.) The puzzles slowly progress in size, complexity, trickiness, and symmetry. Test your phamiliarity now, and catch up on phishtory. By the final puzzle, you'll want a definitive reference book as a guide. (And with your help, we'll bring it to you.)
Variation:
- Online (Java): Crozzles #1 and #3 (song titles), #4 (original artists of cover songs), #5 (onstage guests), #6 and #7 (dates in phishtory), #10 (more lyrics), #11 (even more lyrics),d #12 (venues), and #14 (1999 popourri) are below on this page in a web-based format that allows you to work the puzzles online. (Be sure to see hints, below! You'll need Java, and want some other guidance.)
- Offline (Acrobat): Other puzzles were distributed on Mockingbird flyers and must be viewed with Adobe's free Acrobat Reader, then printed: #2, song titles (originally for 7/25/98 Shoreline; solution); #8, mixed batch (originally for 8-8-98 Merriwhether; solution); #9, lyrics (originally for 8-16-98 Lemonwheel; solution); and #13, 1999 Popourri (for summer 1999 tour).
